Week 8 Reading and Writing

I have looked over my blog and website to review the current designs and layouts. For my blog, I have slowly changed and added things to make it look how I want it to and look good as well. I think I have changed the theme two or three times, and I have finally settled on the current theme because I love the colors and floral design. Floral designs are very much me, so I love it! In the sidebar, I have added two countdown widgets and a weather widget. I recently just moved the countdowns from the top of the sidebar to below my profile in the sidebar, now it looks way better. Overall, I am really happy with my blog design and layout. For my portfolio website, I tried to go for a simpler theme. My background is white and clean. However, I have gone through several different banner pictures for the homepage, but I think I have finally settled on one. For the two stories, I knew exactly which banner photos I wanted to use, but on the second one I actually had to take and edit the photo to make it work. Overall, I really like the direction my portfolio website is headed in.

Over the course of the last half of semester, I have written four stories. Two of them have been sort of weird ideas of my own following the same general plot of the original story, and the other two were the original stories written in my own words. As I have discussed before, writing is definitely not my thing, but I have tried hard to create fairly good stories. I think I have done a good job so far, but by no means am I going to be a world-renowned author. The first story I wrote was "The Foolishness of Viral Trends," I actually got a way better reaction to this than I had ever anticipated. I honestly think it might have been my best work so far this semester. Next, I rewrote "Sita," I think this was probably my best work of imagery up to this point. Then, I rewrote "Sita and Rama," and I am not going to lie I feel like this was a serious decline in my written works. It just was not my favorite piece. The last story I wrote was called "An OU vs TX Friendship." That story is my favorite at the moment. I loved adding in bits and pieces of my life into my story. It was super fun, however, I do not know if that was my strongest story. Looking back on my writing journey this semester, I think I have written some really good pieces and other pieces were not so great, but I do believe I am growing more comfortable in the idea of writing. I think that there is always room for improvement, but I am not going to lie I have shocked myself with how much I have enjoyed writing, and I think with the feedback I have received I will only continue to grow as a writer.

This semester, I have enjoyed the readings even though they can be confusing sometimes. I have enjoyed learning more about Indian myths and culture. My favorite reading so far was "The Jataka Tales." They just took me back to my childhood because I had heard several similar stories to those stories when I was younger. I have also found a note taking style for the readings that really works for me. As discussed before, I also think I am doing pretty well on the writing portion of the class, but I still have a long way to go. All in all, I think I am doing relatively well in this class as a whole, and I am having fun with it too.

The above photo is my favorite picture from the first seven weeks of his class. I chose this as my favorite photo because I actually took it and edited it to make it work as a banner photo for my website. I had to edit the photo to make the banner title legible. I had not ever edited a photo before, but I have gone through stages of exploring the photography field, so it was just a fun, little project for me to do to make my website exactly how I wanted it.

Looking toward the second half of this class, I think I have decided on a note taking strategy for the readings that works best for me and will continue to follow that style. As far as writing goes, I think I need to look at the feedback my classmates are giving me and apply that to my writing. I think I need to be more confident in my writing as well as I go into the last half of this course.
