I have finished reading the PDE version of Ramayana, part B. The following are my notes.

  • Part B
    • Rama and Bharata, by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend:
      • This episode is about Bharata going to the forest to try to get Rama to return to Ayodhya with him.
      • Most of this episode is written in a dialogue, which is rare.
      • The action of this story is not the most exciting, but there is some action.
      • This tale opens with Bharata going into the forest to look for his brother, Rama.
      • The story closes with Rama stating that his father's orders cannot be undone considering he had passed away.
    • The Sandals, by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend:
      • This tale is about Bharata giving his brother Rama shoe, but Rama refuses the gift because he feels he should live out his exile as it was intended.
      • This episode is unique because it is written halfway in third person and halfway in first person.
      • This story is short and does not contain much action.
      • It opens with the sandals being given to Rama.
      • It ends with this pair of sandals being a royal symbol.
    • Battle with Khara, by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend:
      • This episode is about Rama defeating a whole army of Ravana's solely on his own.
      • It is written in third person.
      • There is lots of action as anyone would expect in a battle scene, however, it is a really short episode.
      • The opener is Ravana's army marching to battle.
      • In the end Rama kills both Khara and Dushana, Ravana's brothers.
    • Sita in Lanka, by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend:
      • This story is about Ravana trying to get Sita to sleep with him voluntarily.
      • It is written in third person mostly.
      • Honestly there is not too much action, it is only a four paragraph scene.
      • The tale begins with Sita in captivity.
      •  I really liked this story because it let the reader get to know what type of person Sita is.
      • The episode ends with Sita standing her ground and longing for Rama.
