Another Sweetwater River Incident

Jughead and Betty were sitting on the riverbank. They were swimming and having a picnic. They were enjoying each other’s company, when the Ghoulies appeared out of thin air. The Ghoulies ganged up multiple to one on Jughead. Before Jughead got to beat up he caringly pushed and ordered Betty to stay out of the violence. Betty backed away from the outbreak, but not before she grabbed her phone. Betty knew Jughead did not stand a chance when there was only one of him and at least fifteen Ghoulies, so she called in reinforcements.

Jughead was nearly knocked completely out by the end of the attack, or at least what Betty thought was the end, he was hanging on by a thread. Even though Jughead was barely conscious, he was not strong enough to fight for himself. At that point his future was not looking good.

The Ghoulies knew that Jughead was defenseless and Betty was not going to get involved alone, so they bound his hands and feet together. They then threw Jughead into the river that separated Riverdale and Greendale, the Sweetwater River. The cold water brought Jughead out of his haze just enough for him to realize what had happened and fight for his life. Jughead tossed and turned trying to swim, but all his efforts were to no avail. Jughead had made himself out of breath with his anxious efforts. He was also at the point where he had started to gulp the river water into his body. Slowly but surely his lungs were filling up with water. He was on the edge of drowning to the bottom of the Sweetwater River.

Right before Jughead was about to hit rock bottom, literally, the Serpent gang finally showed up to assist their gang leader, Jughead. Sweet Pea and Fangs dived in to save their hopeless, nearly lifeless leader, while F.P. and the rest of the gang use violence to take down the Ghoulies. It was safe to say that the Serpents won that battle.

After the whole ordeal, Betty took Jughead home and fixed up his wounds. Even though the attack nearly resulted in the death of Jughead, the Serpent gang was still proven to be the better warriors and the stronger gang.

Author’s Note:

This story was based off the original story, “Bhima and the Nagas,” from the PDE version of The Mahabharata. I came up with this story because the serpents in the original story reminded me of the Southside Serpents from Riverdale. I pretty much stuck to the basic plot of the original story, but my ending is a bit different. I chose to replace the characters because you cannot write a story based off of Riverdale and not use the classicArchie Comicscharacters. Also, I thought the Riverdale parody was a good idea because it is a relatively popular television show. I also put this story into a more modern-day language because it is easier to understand. The original story was written completely in third person and in a paragraph format, I kept these qualities the same in my story because it is my writing style preference anyway. That is pretty much all the similarities and differences.

  1. Hi Hannah,
I am so mad at myself for not having seen your blog posts before, Riverdale is one of my favorite shows and I loved your spin on the original epic story. Putting it into the perspective of the Riverdale cast makes understanding the story much easier. It was easy to read and true to both the original story and the shows plot. Although I cant help but imagine Betty would have done more in the show if Jughead was in trouble.

  2. Hannah, I thought your story was great. I enjoyed the original story in the Mahabharata very much, and it is nice to see an excellent rendition of it. I have never seen Riverdale before but based on your adaptation of the story it makes me want to binge watch it now. I can't wait to read more of your stories to see what new settings you come up with.

  3. Hey Hannah,
I liked how you took the story "Bhima and the Naghas" and retold it as a story we would see in Riverdale. It's always fun to see how people apply Indian Epics to modern day tv shows. I honestly feel like this is a story I would see in an episode of Riverdale. I would just focus more on grammar and avoiding run on sentences. Other than that I thought your story was really fun to read.

  4. Hey Hannah, I love how you incorporated Riverdale into this story! I love that show and like how it makes it more interesting and intriguing because it was modernized.I think your thought to do this helps the reader stay engaged and the story maybe more easy to understand since it is in the perspective of the character. Overall, great job!

  5. Thought I’ve never watched Riverdale or know anything about that universe I felt I like I was a part of the action in this story. I really wanted to know more about Jughead, Betty, and the Ghoulies just from reading this transferred tale. I think you did stick to the main details of the story really well, the changes you made were good if not necissary. I like your ending better, it just seems nicer to have Jughead recover and the Sepant gang be easy winners.
Now I feel like I need to go watch a bunch of Riverdale to get to know these charaters more...

  6. Hi Hannah,

I'be never heard what Riverdale is, so I'm a bit lost on this one. I don't know what Ghoulies are, I was picturing some sort of goblin monster I guess. I think it would be helpful if you added some context so that dummies like myself could understand your story a bit better. I also haven't read Bhima and the Nagas so I was very lost.
