Week 7 Story: OU vs TX Friendship

Image
I have revised  this story on my portfolio website. Please click the embedded link. Prologue: Jade was born in November of 1998 to her parents Kelly and Shaun. She was the first of two children. Today she is twenty-years-old living deep in the heart of Texas. In October of 1999, Kelly and Darren welcomed their second daughter, Hailey, into the world. Hailey is now nineteen-years-old, and she is attending college. Jade and Hailey are connected by their parents, in particular their mothers. Kelly and Kelly had met each other when they were in college. Weird enough, they happened to have the same name and the same goal of becoming a registered nurse. They became best friends. They did everything together. They eventually graduated from college, but that did not keep them apart. They both got careers at the same establishment. They moved from their small, country town to a bigger city in Texas together. Then they had their daughters eleven moths apart, so it was only natura

Reading Notes: Mahabharata, Part D

Image
The following text are my notes after reading Part D of the Mahabharata PDE Version. PDE Version of Mahabharata Part D Bhima and Duhshasana , by Donald A. Mackenzie found in Indian Myth and Legend In this episode, Bhima kills Duhshasana. There was action, however, I think the action could have been more drawn out. It was a shorter story, but to me it was definitely one of the most interesting.  It was written in third person and formatted in paragraphs. Ashwatthaman's Jewel,   by Donald A. Mackenzie found in  Indian Myth and Legend Draupadi is grieving over the death of all her sons, and demands Arjuna to take  Ashwatthaman's jewel from his forehead. Ashwatthaman's Jewel was basically his lifeline.  There was mild action in this episode. It was written half in first person and half in third person. It was also written in the format of paragraphs. (A sculpture of Arjuna. Photo by tbSMITH ) The Afterlife ,  by Donald A. Mackenzie found in  Indian

Reading Notes: Mahabharata, Part C

Image
I have read part C of The Mahabharata. These are my notes. PDE Version of Mahabharata Part C  Bhima and Hanuman , by John Mandeville Macfie found in The  Mahabharata, A Summary In this episode, Bhima runs into the long living  monkey, Hanuman. Hanuman and Bhima are actually brothers. Hanuman ends up giving Bhima wise advice. There was mild action. It was written in paragraph format and completely in third person. The Court of King Virata , by Donald A. Mackenzie found in Indian Myth and Legend The five kings and their queen were sentenced to hide in plain sight for the last year of their exile. If they got caught, they had twelve more years in exile. There was mild action. It was written mostly in third person and in a paragraph layout. I found this episode super interesting. What a weird request? Krishna and His Army , by Annie Besant found in The Story of the Great War Krishna agreed to help Arjuna and Duryodhana. Arjuna chose to have Krishna's personal

Tech Tip: Canvas App

Image
(A picture of a phone screen with all the different apps.  Photo by Pixel Fantasy ) This week for a tech tip, I decided to reinstall the canvas application. I had it installed last semester, but near the end it kicked me out and refused to let me sign back in, so I just deleted it. I hate having extra apps on my phone, if they aren't being used!  I installed the app and the process was smooth, and so far this time around the app has not glitched.

Week 6 Review

Image
(3 weeks until spring break! Photo by Claude ) At the end of week 6, I have backed up my blog and website. I have reviewed the grading chart, and I am still on track for the grade I want. I have also reviewed the announcements for the week. My favorite graphic this week was the growth mindset cats from Thursday's announcement . This was my favorite because the cat was so cute, and so fluffy I want to die! I also think the message appealed to me as well, I am at that point in the semester where I need to let go of the idea of being perfect at everything. The stress is too much! My favorite video this week was on Saturday's post . It was called  3 Tips to Boost your Confidence . I chose this video because I like TED Talks, and this was by TED Ed, so I figured why not give it a try. The third tip was practice failure, and I think I needed that reminder that failing one minor thing in life is not going to ruin my entire life.

Week 6 Lab: Overview of Mythology

Image
(Just a simple picture of the whole theme of this blog.  Photo by Yael Beeri ) For story lab this week, I have chosen to watch three crash course videos. These are my note over the three videos. What is a Myth? This video was about how it is hard to define exactly what a myth is because myths are very complex. Characteristics of a myth: A myth is a story. A myth usually involves a very important topic. A myth has survived being passed from generation to generation. A myth is usually about the creation of the world as we know it. Mythology is basically a huge jumble of theories. Theories of Myth This video reviewed different people throughout history, who have created a theory on mythology, which are still believed today. Here are some of the those theories: Plato believed myths were lies, and also said the myths about gods are absolutely unrealistic. Euhemerus believed that myths were just the way for the people who lived before him to explain things t

Reading Notes: Mahabharata, Part B

Image
The following text is my notes from three of the stories out of the PDE version of Mahabharata, part B. PDE Mahabharata Part B Notes: Birth of Draupadi , by Donald A. Mackenzie found in Indian Myth and Legend In this episode, Drupada made a sacrifice to get children. A son and a daughter were both birthed from a sacrificial fire. The action was pretty high and intense in my opinion. This episode was written in third person and in paragraph formatting. The photo below is of a rock engraving. There are five men, the Pandava brothers, and their wife Draupadi is on the far right end. ( Photo by Vaticanus ) The Story of Nalayani , by V. Venkatachellam found it Notes of a Study of the Preliminary Chapter of the Mahabharata This episode was about the karma Draupadi had put upon herself in a previous life.  The action was mild. It was written in the format of paragraphs and in third person. Nalayani was Draupadi in her previous life. Her husband abandoned her then.

Reading Notes: Mahabharata, Part A

Image
I have chosen to read the PDE version of Mahabharata because I choose the PDE version of Ramayana, and I really enjoyed that format. PDE Version of Mahabharata Part A Notes: Dhritarashtra and Pandu , by Donald A. Mackenzie found in Indian Myth and Legend  In this episode, Vyasa is called on to produce children for Bhishma. We also met Bhishma's sons. It was written in third person. It was formatted in paragraphs. There was not much action; it was mostly an introduction episode. Bhima and the Nagas ,  by Donald A. Mackenzie found in Indian Myth and Legend Duryodhana tries to kill Bhima by poison, but it was a failed attempt. Nagas are underworld serpents. There was a medium to high amount of action in this episode. This episode was written completely in third person. This epic was in paragraph form. It reminded me of Riverdale, most likely because of the serpents, or the fact that the plot would probably actually happen on a Riverdale episode. The below pictu

Week 5 Review

Image
This week I have backed up my blog and my website to my computer. Also, I am still on track to get the grade I desire.  This week my favorite video was from the  Thursday, February 14, 2019  announcement. It was Labyrinth History and Walking . For me the design on the cover photo caught my attention, so I watched the short video. The video was short but interesting. Also, I think that the designs of the Labyrinths in the video were fascinating. My favorite graphic this week was the caffeine causality loop from the Friday, February 15, 2019 announcement. I love this graphic because it is so true. I love coffee, and I drink it all day, no matter what time of day. The below photo is a picture of coffee because why not? (Photo by Paul Istoan )

Tech Tip: Weather Widget EC

Image
(A photo of my new widget. Screenshot by me.) This week I added a weather widget to my sidebar. I usually always have my blog page open on my computer, so it is nice and convenient for me to figure out the weather.

Week 5 Story: Sita's Disgrace

Image
(Rama and Sita in happier days. Photo by Asian Curator at the Sand Diego Museum of Art ) Rama sat on his high horse giving out orders. He ordered Hanuman to go search for Sita, tell her his message, and  bring her back to him. Hanuman searched high and low, near and far, and finally found Sita by the sacred Ashoka Tree, which was being guarded. Hanuman gave his spiel as Rama ordered, Sita was a bit hesitant and refused to go back with Hanuman. Therefore, Hanuman returned back to Rama empty handed, but with a message from Sita. Rama mulled over Sita's word for awhile, and finally he frustratedly yelled at Vibhishana to go get Sita. He also commanded that Sita should be bathed and accessorized with bangles and necklaces. Sita thought in her head that she would have gone to see Rama without getting all dolled up, but she agreed to Rama's antics anyways. After Sita got cleaned up and prettied up, Rama instructed that Sita should be presented to him, so a path was cleared

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues, Part B

Image
(A picture of the cover title. Photo by Fred Miller ) In the first part of Sita Sings the Blues , I did not get the correlation between The Ramayana storyline and the San Francisco couple storyline. In the second part, Dave breaks up with Nina and the correlation is that both Sita and Nina have this love for their men that they refuse to let go, so they both mope around waiting for their men to take them back. Unfortunately for Nina, Dave never came back to her. In part B, the story is really focused on Sita's pregnancy and her depression that was caused by Rama splitting up with her. One thing I found interesting in this version versus the version I read, was that Rama actually knew about Sita's pregnancy, and in the book he did not. This version also gave insight that the twins, Sita had birthed, were taught to praise Rama. With all that going on, Sita refused to give up hope that Rama was done with her for good. Eventually, Rama comes through the forest that Sita was

Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues, Part A

Image
I chose to watch Sita Sings the Blues because I watched Nina Paley's TED Talk for an assignment is this class last week. (A visual of Sita being kidnapped by Ravana from the film.  Photo by Tom Small ) This film has stuck to the main idea of Ramayana, however, the main focus of part A was the kidnapping of Sita. Many of the main characters of Ramayana were mentioned, but for very brief moments. The focus was really on Sita and Rama. It started out with the back story of Rama and Sita meeting, getting married, and then getting exiled, all of this was a rather quick overview. Then it depicts Rama and Sita in the forest being head over heels for each other. After that, the video goes through the battle scene and the golden deer scene, when Sita is taken from Rama. From there, it was all about the journey of returning Sita to Rama. Once Sita is back, she goes through the trial of innocence, if you would call it that. The film ends off with a nice musical touch of Sita singin

I just created my first ever meme, if you would call it that, on Cheezburger. Here she is... Made on Cheezburger

Week 4 Review

Image
This week I have backed up my blog. I have officially created my portfolio website and backed it up to my computer too. I am also still on track to end with the grade I am hoping for.  My favorite graphic this week is from Thursday, February 7, 2019 . My favorite photo was of course the photo of my sidebar countdowns. I think it is fun to be featured in the class announcements. I also hope that other people created their own countdowns for what is important to them. My favorite video from the announcements this past week, was from Friday, February 8, 2019. It was The History of Emoticons . Why not learn about the history of our new ways of communication? It was just a fun, little video about how emojis came to be. It was interesting to me that emoticons became a thing in 2002, I did not think they had been around for that long. The video in all was interesting and informative. The below photo is a picture of two emoticons and their meanings.  ( Photo by Penny Bradford )

Week 4 Lab: The Creative Life

Image
(A photo of a TED Talk stage. Photo by Wikimedia Commons ) For the story lab this week, I decided to watch two TED Talks, Copyright is Brain Damage and A New Theory of Human Intelligence . The first video examined the effects copyrights had on creativity. The second video scrutinized the trend of putting people in intelligence categories, from a young age to the young adult stage of life. I now realize after watching these videos, that in general children are brainwashed from a young age to not think creatively. For me it was the exact opposite. These TED Talks opened my eyes to a issue I was never exposed to. As a child, I was three when my sister started in a program called Destination Imagination. Destination Imagination is a program that presents seven different problem in August every year, and a team of seven members have to solve the problem by presenting a skit with props, costumes, and all that jazz. There are usually two team managers per team, however, help of any

Reading Notes: Ramayana, Part D

Image
I have finished all four parts of  The Ramayana epic. My notes for part D are what follows. Part D Sita and Rama , by Sister Nivedita, found in Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists In this episode Rama orders Sita to come see him. In the end Rama listens to the people of his kingdom over his wife's own words. There is mild action in this episode, in my opinion. It is mostly written in third person, but there are some bits written in first person. I found this story interesting because it is a real world problem. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in the center of or witnessed a he said, she said scenario. The below picture is Sita purifying herself to try to prove her innocence to Rama.   (Photo by The San Diego Museum of Art Collection) Rama and Bharata , by  Donald A. Mackenzie, found in  Indian Myth and Legend , also by Romesh Dutt, also found in Ramayana, The Epic of Rama, Prince of India In this episode the sandals Bharata gave to Rama come bac

Reading Notes: Ramayana, Part C

Image
I have completed The Ramayana, Part C reading. My notes are the text that follows. Last week, I decided to choose four stories from each section, and I found that I had too many options to choose from when it came time to write my story, so this week have decided to limit myself to three stories from each part. PDE Ramayana , Week 4: Part C Vali's Death , by Romesh Dutt, found in Ramayana, The Epic of Rama, Prince of India This episode was about Rama and Sugriva teaming up to kill Sugriva's brother, Vali.  This was written in poem form, and was narrated completely in third person. There of course was plenty of action, as should be expected. Rama's integrity ends up being compromised because he killed Vali in a discreditable way. The picture below is of Vali and Sugriva etched into some sort of rock or possibly even sand. ( Photo by Kandukuru Nagarjun ) The Armies , by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend , also by Romesh Dutt, also

Week 3 Review

Image
(This week is in the rear view.  Photo by Susanne Nilsson )  It is the end of week 3. I have backed up my blog to my computer. I have reviewed my progress in class, and I am on track to get the grade I want at the end of the semester.  For the video off of the daily announcement, I chose to watch   Hallelujah - Karsh Kale feat Shilpa Rao , which was on the Wednesday, January 30 announcement. I chose to watch this video because I love this song, and I have heard so many versions of it, and they are all so beautiful, so why not watch and listen to a new version? It is always good to expand my horizons. My final take on it was, that the song was sang absolutely beautiful, just like all the other versions I have watched and listened to. My favorite picture from this week came from the Saturday, February 2  announcement. It was a meme about cats and a palindrome! I found this my favorite because my name is a palindrome, and they aren't that common, so it is always fun

Topic Research: Karma

Image
(This is a photo of my topic for an introduction purposes.  Photo by Shelby H .) For my storybook, I have decided that Karma is the most likely topic as of right now. Karma is a the concept that every action has a consequential reaction. In the Indian epics this links across all life times of a single being. From what I have researched, it appears that karma is a concept in Hinduism, however, in some Indian epics Karma is portrayed as a god or goddess too.  Vedavati : Vedavati is a story of its own, but the reason I would use it for one of my stories is because it relates to Karma in the form of the rebirth of Sita. Vedavati was Sita in her pervious life. Vedavati was captured by Ravana and rejected him as she did in her after life, but this time Vedavati was made to walk into a fire to her death, but not before she cursed Ravana. The below picture is a great representation of the fact that Karma crosses over different lifetimes. ( Photo by -Curly- ) Sita in Lanka :

Tech Tip: Countdown Blog Widget EC

Image
(A picture of my new widgets. Screenshot by me) This week I have chosen to add two countdown widgets to my side bar. I added a countdown for days until summer break starts. For the second widget, I of course put a countdown widget for the return of Sooner football! I mean Boomer Sooner am I right!

Feedback Strategies

Image
I am going to start off by saying, I am not very confident about giving feedback about other written works by my classmates. Writing has been a personal obstacle for me because I have only done it for a grade and have never really liked to do it no matter how much I have tried to; with that being said I do not think any of my written works are great. Since I am not into the whole writing scene, and I am not very good at it, I do not think I will be the best person to give feedback to others, but I will try my best. The Difference between Praise and Feedback : In this blog post, there were a couple of outlooks on praise and a final synopsis about how humans can mix up praise and feedback. I learned from this article that asking questions and making the person think about the question might be a good form of feedback. I also learned that being specific is a great feedback strategy. I also learned some about the debate between processing praise and no praise at all, which I do not thin
