Reading Notes: Ramayana, Part D
I have finished all four parts of The Ramayana epic. My notes for part D are what follows.
- Part D
- Sita and Rama, by Sister Nivedita, found in Myths of the Hindus and Buddhists
- In this episode Rama orders Sita to come see him.
- In the end Rama listens to the people of his kingdom over his wife's own words.
- There is mild action in this episode, in my opinion.
- It is mostly written in third person, but there are some bits written in first person.
- I found this story interesting because it is a real world problem. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in the center of or witnessed a he said, she said scenario.
- The below picture is Sita purifying herself to try to prove her innocence to Rama.
- Rama and Bharata, by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend, also by Romesh Dutt, also found in Ramayana, The Epic of Rama, Prince of India
- In this episode the sandals Bharata gave to Rama come back into play.
- Rama comes back to Ayodhya just in time time to save his brother, Bharata, from killing himself as he had promised all those years ago.
- Bharata returns the kingdom to Rama's care.
- This episode was written mostly in verse format and in third person, with limited first person quotes.
- I would say there was very little action happening in this episode.
- Valmiki's Hermitage, by Donald A. Mackenzie, found in Indian Myth and Legend
- This episode was quite the plot twist. Rama had worked all that time to have Sita returned to him, but then he turns around and exiles her.
- Sita ends up giving birth, to not only one but two sons, while she was exiled.
- Rama crosses paths with the sons of Sita and questions who their parents were.
- In this episode the action was in between, it was not filled with action, but then again it didn't have any action at all.
- It was written mainly in third person, and had very few first person parts.
